Before I can begin talking about the book with you, I must first share with you what the book is about. Here’s a little bit about the book via the Box of Butterflies website:

Roma Downey—best known as the beloved angel on the TV show Touched by an Angel—has created a beautiful book filled with encouragement and hope, assuring us of God’s comforting presence in our lives.
Ever since she was a little girl, Roma has seen butterflies as a reminder of God’s presence. They have appeared to her in moments when she needed encouragement and reminded her she is not alone. In this deeply personal book, Roma shares stories from her life, alongside quotes, poems, scripture, and artwork that she prays will uplift you as they have her. Each grace-filled chapter of this beautiful full-color book covers topics such as courage, strength, gratitude, love, and kindness.
Reminiscent of the message of her popular television series, Touched by an Angel, this book’s central theme is that there is a God, He loves you, and that even in your most difficult moments, He is by your side. That though you may feel alone, you are never truly alone. The subtle butterfly theme reminds us that the wonder of God’s love and kindness is sometimes reflected in the gentle whispers of his creation and that we all have the power to transform from simple caterpillars into exquisite butterflies.
Written in a way that encourages you to “dip in and out” of its flowing content, this inspiring book invites you to return to its pages again and again, as life brings new challenges or you find yourself in need of new inspiration.
I grew up watching Roma Downey on television. I even wrote plays and scripts which I performed with my cousins for my family where we played angels like Monica and Tess from her show, Touched by an Angel. It just so happens that I actually got to meet Roma Downey when I was younger – and she signed one of my scripts (Oh, and yes. I have a picture of this moment!)

It’s not the best quality, our faces are blurry, and we’re standing next to a giant poster of my dad, but it’s real life. Roma showed such real, original kindness to me and many others that day. I can’t imagine my script, penned by a thirteen-year-old school girl, was very good, but she told me it was, and she told me to keep working at it. Five years later, I’m still writing. 🙂 Thanks, Roma!

When the opportunity presented itself to be a part of Roma Downey’s Book Launch Team for Box of Butterflies – how could I turn down the chance to apply? Here was this person, who had been such a formative influence on my life and who truly inspired me to pursue a creative career as a faith-driven individual and as a woman, releasing a book and presenting me the opportunity to write about it? It feels like I’ve come full circle, and it’s such a blessing – just like the ones that Roma talks about in her book.

This book begins with the very true stories of Roma’s personal life. Her life, her loves, her losses, and her ability to cling unapologetically to her faith through it all. She doesn’t market herself as being perfect though; there’s a real rawness to it. A kind of oppeness that is uncanny in today’s world of cover-ups and scapegoats. Roma willingly admits her flaws page by page, but not out of self-pity, but rather out of the desire to bring glory to God by showing the world that beauty can come from ashes. That good things can come from bad situations. That caterpillars can become butterflies.

It had an unexpected ending for me; I somehow felt that it would just keep going on for forever and ever. Reading it was like sitting down to have a conversation over a cup of coffee (or tea, for Roma) with a dear friend. You can feel Roma’s heart in this book. Love emanates from every single page, and each word instills the kind of hope and promise that only God can inspire. I am reminded of faith, hope, and love, and overflowing with my fill of each! Here’s to searching for the butterflies in my own life… What a blessing this journey has been!

Have you ever felt trapped in the darkness, or overwhelmed by fear? Do you have a heart to serve, but don’t know where to begin? Are you seeking to have a better understanding of God and His love? This book is for you.

Poetry, personal testimony, and inspirational pictures fly off the pages and go straight to the heart. Some themes that run through this book are things like: Motherhood, love, peace, hope, courage, patience, grief, and fellowship. I can honestly say I that my spirit felt lighter after I finished this book. A peace washed over me, and a desire to love and be loved by God filled my soul at its core.

This book would be a great gift to throw in a loved one’s Easter basket, or to wrap up in a pretty pink bow and present to your Mom on Mother’s Day with a bouquet of flowers. Order your copy today!

I am so overcome with joy that I had this opportunity and incredibly humbled by the experience. I pray that all of you would have the same kind of impact when you read this book!

Love,
